Bio & Interests

Biography: Originally from Cornwall, Glyn now lives and works on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. Following a one-year Arts Foundation Course at the respected Falmouth School of Art in Cornwall, he left to study Photography, Film and Television at Degree Level in London. On completion of his degree in 1987, Glyn started freelancing for magazine clients, especially yachting and countryside titles such as Classic Boat, Yachting World and Country Living. Over his career he has undertaken many industrial and advertising commissions for clients such as National Grid PLC and Midland Mainline Railways using camera formats from 35mm to 5”x4”. Since 1991, he has been photographic tutor at the University of Wales, Bangor developing a range of project based courses with an emphasis on creativity, artistry, concept and narrative. Over the last few years he has been successful in having multiple entries accepted for Shot up North, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and probably more importantly for Glyn, a winning image in the nationally recognised IDEA Digital Imaging Awards 2002. There have been several recent magazine articles about Glyn and his work; Welsh Living, (Summer 2003); Digital Photographer, (April 2004); Digital Photography Made Easy, (July 2004); British Journal of Photography (21.07.04); Art Business Today, (August 2004); Image, (May 2005); WDA "Busnes" magazine (Winter 2005). In October 1995 Glyn won Silver in an International Landscape Competition in the London Photographic Awards. This led to TV coverage by the Welsh magazine programme, "Wedi 7". On November 29th 2005, he was featured in a BBC2 Wales documentary "Welsh Journeys" with news presenter Jamie Owen. On April 23rd 2006 Glyn was interviewed by BBC Radio Wales for Mousemat - Adam Walton discussed landscape photography with respect to digital workflow from camera settings to software.

His work has appeared in a large number of magazines, books, brochures and publications but nothing was as satisfying as selling his personal images directly to clients and shooting private portraits, actors and models. In 2002, Glyn established his first commercial studio and gallery on Anglesey which enabled him to make his prints available commercially and to a much wider audience. In Spring 2005 Glyn moved to much bigger premises in Menai Bridge where he has created a more spacious gallery and a studio large enough for high quality family portraits.

As with many professionals, Glyn has now adopted a completely digital workflow and has invested heavily in the latest digital SLRs and large-format printers which have revolutionised his business. The quality of digital imaging is now absolutely stunning and photographers are finally in control of the end product rather than photographic labs. “In my opinion it is quite simply the best thing that has ever happened for photographers as it puts us in the driving seat". The same quality of printing on fine-art papers is used for all Glyn's portrait work as well as his fine-art landscapes. "Clients seem to absolutely love the print quality of their family portraits .. in fact many would prefer to see these images on the wall instead of traditional paintings!"
