Who is Stripping Your Metadata?
For some time now David Riecks, a photographer based in the USA, and other members of the Controlled Vocabulary discussion forum have been subjecting social media websites to close scrutiny, particularily with regard to the extent to which they preserve metadata in images. |

UK Government Releases Rights Grabbing Information
A recent Freedom of Information (FOI) request submitted by Pro-Imaging to the United Kingdom Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) has been answered. DBIS is responsible, along with many other duties, for the United Kingdom copyright legislation. The FOI request was submitted following the launch of the DBIS Rights Grabbing competition entitled 'Living Science', the terms of which were changed following Pro-Imaging's complaint. |

 Knowledge is power. With image theft rampant, it is vitally important that you know the facts regarding copyright protection and how to effectively exercise your rights. Too many times due to lack of information, mis-information or just plain carelessness, a photographer has been left defenseless, unable to take action against infringers. UK IP Office Reject Freedom of Information AppealA few weeks ago we reported that the UK Copyright Office rejected a Freedom of Information request. One of our members made a request to the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (IPO) that confidential submissions made to it concerning copyright legislation by various organisations be made public. The IPO had invited submissions from organisations and individuals that it would consider when planning changes to copyright legislation. |
