A busy week on PI, with over 200 messages between members asking for advice and solving problems.
There were only a few technical problems - blocking pop-up windows in Safari (a new preference in Lion) email on a new iMac, what to do with an old LaCie monitor, and recommendations for new hard drives.
On the good news side, UK members traditionally meet up at the national photo trade show 'Focus on Imaging' and places and times were set. And one member who chatted over the fence to his new neighbour ended up with a commission!
But most of the weeks discussions were about problems. One member noticed that his agency was taking an unreasonably large deduction from his DACS payments (payments made to creators for allowing their use by libraries, schools etc for photocopying etc.) while another UK member was trying to work out the complexities of registering his work with the US copyright office.
The benefit of paying a lot more money for an Eizo monitor, compared to a Dell, were discussed, as were the various benefits of a wordpress blog and website, a face book page, or your own website with seperate blog and Facebook page.
However the biggest discussion came at the weekend - when members are allowed to chat about anything they like. A question on solar panels came up, and unleashed a wealth of knowledge and opinions, both from members who had or were building their own eco homes and studios, and from those who thought that a lot of eco-energy was a scam underpinned by government regulations and subsidies! Such is the variety of opinions and experience we have on Pro Imaging!
