It's been a busy week on the Pro-Imaging discussion forum this week with a wide variety of interesting, useful and informative postings, covering the technical, business and artistic sides of our profession, here is just a selection.
Recommendations for a Mac : A PI member is coming over from the dark side- he's having problems with his PC, the list came up with lots of advice, from discounts and buying refurbs to advice to stick with it and sort out his PC and to stop getting under the bonnet!
Buying a Canon 5D2: Should a member buy the camera now or wait for a rumoured new offering? PI's Canon users were unanimous in recommending the 5D2.
Cove Construction: Lots of ways to refurbish an infinity cove were suggested , different techniques to build one and local contacts to do the job.
DLSR or MF Back: An active thread began with a member wondering why, with prices coming down, more people weren't getting MF Digital Backs? Another member pointed out that our that fees were dropping as well, discussions covered the MF Backs extra quality for large prints as opposed to the DSLR's easier handling making it more suitable for some assignments, moving on to a member preferring to use drum scanned film.
Selling overseas on ebay: A member, cautious about accepting bids from around the world sought advice, best summed up as "If it seems too good to be true it probably is"
Increasing your Google rating: Linking between members web sites and the PI site should help one's Google Rating, this thread led on to- Improving the PI Web Site: An interesting discussion on it's design and it's purpose. Members have their opportunity to infuence the direction PI foes in the comming years.
JPEG Colour shifts: A member discovered that a colour changed after saving as a jpeg and reopening. We learnt that there's a colour mode change when saving as a jpeg. This colour change varies with the jpeg compression, very useful knowledge.
Galleries: Illustrating the varied disciplines amongst the PI membership, one member specialising in selling his Prints and Books was searching for more Galleries to approach for space to show his latest project. The list came up with suggestions and contacts.
Great London Aerial Pictures: A member posted a link to some pictures that really excited them. It's nice to remember sometimes what makes one a photographer.
Using Multiple SB900's: Many photographers are now working with small flashguns rather than mains powered flashguns, a member posted asking for others experiences, another member linked to a site showing his impressive results and lighting diagrams. contributed by David Williams - David Williams Photography |
