The big news in photography this week is the announcement that Getty Images is for sale, together with the interesting fact that their stock actually fell on the announcement, the opposite of general practice. But as one member noted, with three consecutive quarters of falling profits, there is little sentimentality in the city.
The hardware discussions of the week revolved around hard drive storage suggestions for suppliers in the UK and the slightly more concerning topic of Powerbook that keeps dispensing electric shocks...
Software discussions included ways of speeding up Adobe Lightroom, believed to be slow by some, but quite speedy by others. It seems it has a lot to do with your machine and the number of images in your archive. Plus we had a short techie discussion about CHDK and hacks for Canon compact cameras that allow RAW file writing.
A hot topic for business discussion involved pricing images for web use. With the web rapidly becoming the primary publishing medium, how do you price usage of what is effectively world rights? Other business discussions included advice on what to do when the wedding you photographed for free a few years ago hits the buffers and the bride wants all the images removed from your website
