Pro-Imaging

With most members basking in the seasonal afterglow of Christmas and enjoying a relaxed build up to New Year's Eve, this week was bound to be relatively quiet, yet the list still saw a surprising amount of traffic.

The week began with a flood of Christmas messages of goodwill and even a couple of stories of how photographs had been given and gratefully received as Christmas gifts.

For those working on new websites for the New Year, a posting titled 'Web Typography Basics - a reference link' presented a great introduction into how to really get a grip with effective presentation of text on the web.

A post from a few weeks back - 'Gimp anyone' - had a useful update, with one member commenting on how he'd had good use out of the open source photo-editing program GIMP, but still found Photoshop more intuitive where retouching was concerned.

The future of photojournalism is a recurrent topic where positive postings are few and far between, so a posting noting the advent of 'drone journalism' - where military-style drones or remote control planes have been used to capture impressive images from above - was welcome light relief. It even suggested that the same technology could be employed to collect data - air or water samples for example - to help reporters in their investigations. Could this be the way to 'stay above the rest' in 2012?

Finally, with thoughts of New Year's resolutions in mind, one PI member's posting of his ambitious plans for 'A New Beginning' created a flurry of traffic, some with simple messages of good will, others with practical advice learned through experience on how to best to achieve these goals and some who were just happy to admit they were plain jealous at the exciting plan involved, which included much travel to far-off locations and no doubt fantastic image-making opportunities.

On this optimistic note PI welcomed the New Year and would like to wish anyone reading this a fantastic and prosperous 2012!
