This week, the list had wide ranging discussions.... Techie stuff included whether the trendy new iMacs had the power to do the heavy lifting needed in Photoshop with lots of layered files. The answers were pretty positive. A most remarkable worldwide discussion on colour spaces ran for some time with in depth, heavyweight technical discussions on converting to colour spaces, RGB, sRGB and the differences in colour gammuts. On the subject of workflows, various techniques for sharpening for print were offered. Postal strikes in the UK most probably triggered the discussion on FTP file delivery and how to set up you own Mac based FTP server to allow clients to download files directly and securely. The vulnerabilities of travelling with equipment and security were highlighted this week when a PI member experienced theft from checked in hold luggage. The fact that US Customs open all locked baggage was discussed together with ways to re-secure luggage afterwards. Motion content was discussed with an in depth chat about Final Cut Pro and all the many different formats available to output to and ways to do it, with Flip4Mac and Quick Time Pro featuring highly.
