A relatively quiet week, but with a global membership, there's always a discussion going on about something image related.
The new Pro Imaging members galleries are now live and with many members adding examples of their work, there were bound to be a few glitches so there were lots of "How do I ......" postings as we all learned how it works. With content growing by the day, the Pro Imaging website traffic is gathering momentum.
Technical discussions involved dispelling a few myths on colour management and assigning profiles, with several colour management experts guiding others through the dangerous implications of assigning colour profiles to image with no tagged profile at all, plus a strange request by a client to apply varnish to a gallery print - but only parts of it......
Mac topics revolved around the fastest way to get 15 GB if images off your laptop following a location shoot. Use target mode or connect over a network?
Website design, construction, software and maintenance is always a popular theme as image makers realise that a website crafted to display your work will not make you popular with Google unless you have lots of text describing them too. Optimising images for website display was also discussed, with the discussion revolving around striking a balance between Photoshop's 'Save of Web' command stripping out your metadata and image file sizes growing too big when the EXIF is left stuffed inside.
The RAW file versus DNG discussion which is a subject of much discussion everywhere centred around whether to take the plunge and convert all, keep a backup of old RAW files, or sit tight and wait and see. Plus, of course, in years to come, will you still be able to access your work?
Finally, equipment recommendations included whether the Epson V700 / 750 scanner is a worthwhile buy and a pocket camera discussion around the Ricoh GX100 and the Sony Cybershot R1. |
