Weekly List Discussion
PI Weekly digest to 5/12/11
Another busy week on PI with one issue dominating the various discussions - copyright.

The British Library, with the help of a commercial enterprise, has put it's newspaper archive online, and is claiming copyright. Given that the older papers are out of copyright and in the public domain, and that the more modern one's will contain other people's copyrighted material, members wondered how this could be legal.

"On the same issue, members were asked to complete and comment on an online survey who's purpose was seemingly to promote the concept of copyright free."

There were still technical issues raised by members - there always are! The old problem of networking PCs and Macs was raised again, as was changing the colour of the background in Photoshop CS3.

One member was looking for a second hand large format camera for a trip he's making next year, while another wanted to resurrect an old Mac he's acquired and needed advice on the correct replacement video card to buy. Advice was also sought on the best VoIP phone system to buy.

Lastly, there were two pieces of important news to celebrate. Firstly, PI had it's seventh birthday. Secondly, one of the founders of PI celebrated a personal milestone birthday, a fact leaked to the membership by one of his colleagues. Many congratulatory emails followed!
