It's obviously still 'summer holidays' for members in the northern hemisphere, as there were less than 90 messages and responses this week. On the technical side, members were having problems using 32bit plug-ins with the new Photoshop CS5, and the slow performance of converting to DNG format in Lightroom. Western Digital MyBook Studio hard drives came in for heavy criticism, while other members praised the use of small 'netbook' computers for use on location. Several members helped out with suggestions of where to get Linhof bellows repaired. On the business side of things, a member wanted advice on credit card companies, having had a bad experience of customer service with his current provider. Another member, already in possession of a large format printer, wanted advice on a printer to use for 6x4 family prints, to stick in an album. Of the many suggestions, the most surprising was to put them in a Blurb type book instead. A member has been asked to photograph a unique cricket bat, and to supply limited edition prints for various famous cricketers to autograph, so that his local cricket club can sell them to raise funds, had several questions about the process. How big a print should he supply? Should he sign the print as well, to authenticate it's limited edition status? What price would they sell for? Much advice was provided by members, but it seems the local cricket club committee will have the final word! Finally, a discussion was raised about photographing funerals! Was it a new business proposition, or just ghoulish? Contributed by Simon Grosset - www.q-photography.co.uk |
