Listed in this article are important links to photographers rights guides, detailing what they can and can't photograph, rights at a police scene, and so on. There are some links to online question and answer sessions where your questions will be answered by highly qualified specialists in Intellectual Property Law, note however they are not a substitute for full legal advice.

Australian street photography legal issues is a guide published by Andrew Nemeth BSc (Hons) LLB specifically for Austrailan photographers, and can be read here .

United Kingdom

Copyright Action  

EPUK, the mailing list and website for professional editorial photographers, has launched Copyright Action, a website community and educational resource that aims push back and hold greed and selfishness to account.

This is an excellent website by an organisation committed to actively fighting against all abuses of photographers rights. In it you will find good advice about protecting your copyright and details of companies indulging in practices with regard to copyright & moral rights that they would not wish you to know about. Check out these reports and be aware of the perils of submitting images to some organisations.

Pro-Imaging and Copyright Action support each others aims and share information about abuses of photographers rights.

OP©P Organisation for Photographers Copyright Protection

OP©P is a non profit, voluntary organisation with the aim of getting UK photographers to join and reduce copyright abuse. This is another organisation committed to fighting copyright abuse. It is particularly important to understand the effects of copyright abuse when you are starting off your career so OP©P is mainly aimed at new photographers, although the information contained on this excellent website may be useful to any photographer, amateur or professional, new or old.

own-it Intelectual Property Advice For Creative Businesses

Own-it, Intellectual Property Advice Service, provides free advice, resources and events on intellectual property for London’s creative businesses, including copyright, design rights, trade marks, patents, branding, licensing, royalties and contracts. Membership is free and members can attend events, access event podcasts, templates of legal contracts, free legal advice and book free 1 to 1 IP advice sessions with lawyers.

Rights Guide

The UK Photographers Rights Guide is written by Linda Macpherson LL.B, Dip.L.P., LL.M. She specialises in Information Technology Law, Intellectual Property Law and Media Law, and lectures in law at Heriot Watt Uiversity.

The guide is a 2 page PDF, summarising the current law in the United Kingdom of particlar interest to photographers. The guide is presented as is, and must not be read as a definitive statement of the law in any given situation.
