Page 3 of 4 Notification LettersOrganisers and sponsors of photographic competitions with rules that fail Pro-Imaging's rights tests recieve a notification letter sent by email conforming generally to the format listed below. Of course there may be some specific points of detail that vary depending on what is found in the competition rules.
Subject: Name of Photo Competition Dear ??????? Competition Title
The above competition’s rules have been reviewed by Pro-Imaging, an international organisation for professional photographers, and the rules of the contest fail to comply with all the provisions in the Bill of Rights.
This review is part of our ongoing program of publishing consumer reports that highlight the degree to which a competition’s rules respect photographer’s rights. We make no distinction between amateur and professional competitions with regard to competition rules because such a distinction is not made in the law concerning intellectual property rights. We compare a competition’s rules against the provisions set out in the Bill of Rights for photography competitions; the Bill of Rights can be read here – http://www.pro-imaging.org/content/view/177/156/ The competition rules referred to above have not met all the provisions in the Bill of Rights and we have created a consumer report containing the details of our analysis, this can be read here – http://www.pro-imaging.org/content/view/nnn/nnn/ If there is anything incorrect in this report we will be happy to correct it. If you wish to review the competitions rules to make adjustments please advise us that you wish to do so, we will be glad to assist you in that process.
Our report is scheduled to be published on dd Month 2008 on The Rights Off List, this is the list of competitions which have not met all the provisions in the Bill of Rights. If you wish to review the competitions rules to make adjustments please advise us that you wish to do so, we will be glad to assist you in that process and delay publication of our report for a reasonable period during the review.
If the rules can be changed to comply with the Bill of Rights the competition will be listed on The Rights On List, a worldwide resource to all photographers of recommended contests. We look forward to hearing from you in due course. Kind regards ?????? ???????
