PI Digest to 20/1/08
A busy week with over 360 postings
Professional Bodies-Have they had their day? It's the time of year when subs need to be paid. A member was wondering whether to continue with his membership of a particular professional body and sought advice. A lot of PI members seem to have withdrawn from membership for a variety of reasons ranging from career moves making qualifications unimportant to customers or employers through to annoyance with the seeming political infighting in some organisations. From the posting of members on this topic it would appear that all of the major bodies are suffering in the same way, many members felt that web based groups, and in particular PI offered more now.
The Big One, A members problem with the image recorded being rotated as compared with what the viewfinder showed on his new Canon 1DSMK3 camera moved into a discussion as to what cameras could achieve a high quality gallery wall print at A0 size. Apart from medium format suggestions the debate moved into areas of the style of pictures you take dependent on your camera, How your camera influences the pictures you take. An almost real time discussion helped the member come to a preliminary decision to persevere with a replacement camera. This topic moved on to a discussion of the ppi settings members use at various sizes and with different manufacturers printers and papers. Probably more posts on these topics than at any other time while PI's been running.
There's a link to a new posting on the PI Website where a member shares her experiences as a people photographer attending a landscape workshop in the Sierra Nevadas'. Some great photographs and tips on making joined up panoramic landscapes.
