Pro Imaging discussion week ending 9th March
Written by Neill Watson

It's been a bumper week for classic photographer's discussions this week with several subjects that were thought to be dead and buried springing into life.

The good old classic Canon vs Nikon seemed to have died out in recent years with Canon seeming to have the upper hand, judging by the number of white lens barrels seen at events these days. However, with the D3, Nikon seem to be not just back in the race, but changing the rules to leapfrog. Early adopters of the Canon 1DS Mk3 reporting problems has not helped.

Next classic to turn up was "Photography - is it art?"  When the question is asked amongst photographers, the response is probably a reflection of how they see themselves. That will always generate a big discussion. Artist or technician or hybrid of both? Not navel gazing and beard stroking, just a group of professionals evaluating how they see their own profession

Business issues involved an urgent request for a daylight studio in Brighton, UK, plus a couple of impressive requests to work for free from potential clients that were politely declined....

The other big technical discussion of the week was also a "which is best". This time revolving around Lightroom and Aperture.

And just to cap off the controversy, one menber suggested that he found Henri Cartier Bresson's work a little boring.

It's never boring on the Pro Imaging list.....
