UK GOVERNMENT AGENCY INVESTIGATES RIGHTS GRABBING COMPETITION

Pro-Imaging continues its campaign targeted against all those organisers and sponsors of photographic competitions that are merely rights grabbing devices. Pro-Imaging is an organisation representing the interests of the worldwide photographers who are its members.

A press release has been issued to photographic media and organisations throughout the world.

Pro-Imaging are undertaking to supply to the world a consumer report whereby we test photography competitions against a set of conditions embodied in our Bill of Rights for Photographers. Competitions with T&C's that fail any of our tests result in the sponsor being notified of their failure, and given notice to adjust their rules. If they fail to do so we publish in simple language exactly what entrants will lose if they enter the competition.

In this press release are details of a contest promoted in the UK by the North East Development Agency, the 2008 Student Challenge, and in the U.S by Canon, the Canon New Baby Contest, in both cases they are claiming full copyright from the entrants. The organisations concerned were given notice about their failed T&C's, they feature in our press release, and you can read the details of how they failed on our Rights Off List

The United Kingdom North East Development Agency has offered to carry out a full investigation into our complaints mentioned in the press release. Canon U.S.A. made no response to our notice.

Full details of how we test these competitions can be read in our Bill of Rights for Photographers.
