Weekly List Discussion 5th May

A sad start to the week with a report from Switzerland that 8x10 film is no longer available there. "8x10? What's that?", say the digital early adopters....

The deadly sin of Royalty Free was discussed at great length this week. As you may know, one of the prime features of Pro Imaging is it's strong anti-RF stance. One member was surprised at how easy it was to remove RF material from a distributor's website and re-assign work never sold as Rights Managed - just 24 hours in fact.

With more and more material "out there" on the web, protecting against copyright theft is a major issue. There wqas discussion this week regarding SureSign software and how it would appear to offer good protection. With the USA Orphan Works Bill pending, it seems we need all the help we can get. The Bill was discussed, in particular, what can photographers in the rest of the world do about it?

Technical discussions included a way of using household mains wiring to run high speed broadband signals in a more secure way than wireless, plus the remarkable fact that some well known computer suppliers are charging twice as much for flat screen displays just by putting their logo on the front. The same internals can be bought for half the price, if you know where to look.
