| PI weekly discussion to 17th May 2008 |
|
There were just under 200 emails this week, on over 30 different and wide-ranging subjects. Among technical issues covered were how to remove CDs stuck in a Mac, advice on vector art scaling, and the best contact manager software. One member asked for advice about printing B&W on his old Epson 1290, and several members pointed out that buying a modern Epson printer would result in much superior results. One member had an unusual problem with cropping in CS2 - eventually solved when he realised his own mistake, but not before lots of interesting advice had been offered. Putting drop shadows on pictures in album pages was discussed, as well as a problem with images appearing darker in Lightroom than Photoshop. On the non-technical side of things, one member pointed out that a magazine had just been published using 100% user content (ie the readers had contributed the words and pictures.) The good news is that at least they got paid the going rate..... The same member wondered if PI could produce its own magazine consisting of members stories and pictures. (Do any of us have the time?) One member wanted advice on a good hotel in Palma (he said he was going there to work, not holiday. Hmmmm) Lastly, on the anniversary of the Dam Busters raid by the UK 65 years ago, a member pointed to one of the best advertisements ever made, now on YouTube. There followed a completely non-photographic but hugely enjoyable, discussion about Peter Jackson's new version of the film, now being made in New Zealand, and the wisdom of re-creating old war films in general.
