Pilsner Urquel International Photography Award 2008 ends 15 June 2008 The Rules of this ContestListed below are extracts from the rules of this competition. These extracts detail the rights being claimed from entrants. "USE OF IMAGES Copyright and all other rights remain that of the photographer. Any photograph used by IPA shall carry the photographer's credit line. Use may include publication in any IPA media sponsor publication. All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by IPA and the SABMiller group for marketing and promotional purposes including in any media such as exhibitions, print and digital media directly related to the IPA competition." Results of Testing the RulesListed below are the results of the tests we carried out on this competition's rules. The tests are all based on the standards set out in The Bill of Rights. By adopting these standards competition organisers can create competition rules that meet the needs of organisers and are fair and respectful to the rights of entrants. For each test a result is given which can be Pass of Fail. Competitions that pass all these tests go on The Rights On List, those that don't go on The Rights Off List. If the rules are vague and we cannot determine whether the rules pass a particular test or not the result is shown as Unclear. Where a test is not necessary the result is shown as N/A. ConclusionsThis contest fails The Bill of Rights because -
If you submit an image to this contest, although you can continue to license your image non-exclusively, you will lose forever the right to exclusively license your image. This contest has pretty good rules overall and is very prestigious. It could have been placed on The Rights On List if only it had adopted the time limits for usage duration set out in conditions 2 and 3 of The Bill of Rights. We hope that the organisers may make this small change to their rules in future. ### Organisations - International Photography Awards, Pilsner Urquell, atedge, Orbitz, Ilford, Kingston, Hasselblad, Photoflex.com, splashlight, Canon, The Black Book, Fresh Lists, Lensbabies, Wacom, Workbook, Hewlit Packard, Les Rencontres D'Arles, Advertising Photographers of Amercica (APA), American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), Society of Motion Picture Still Photographer (SMPSP), National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), Photoworkshop.com, Canadian Association For Photographic Art, DivePhotoGuide.com, Women in Photography International, Planetpoint, Society for Photographic Education (spe), Photo Art Association of Singapore, Argentine Society of Cinema Photographers, Association of Independent Photographers - France, Los Angelos Photo - Professional Photo Directory, L.A.International, Apogee Photo, Focus Escola de Fotografia (Brazil), emma, Popular Photography, pdn, The Times Journal of Photography, The Body, Camera Arts, Professional Photographer, shutterbug, PopPhoto, designtaxi, anet.net, fontographics, JOBY, American Photo, Judges and Jurors Susan Aurinko - Owner/Director | Flatfile Galleries | ChicagoSusan Baraz - Co-Chair - Lucie Awards | Chair - Focus on Aids | Photo Consultant | California, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Contact - Send enquiries and views about this contest to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
