Competitions Diary 24 May 2008This diary update is simply to summarise the major changes made to the presentation of the various competition lists. Reorganisation Firstly, there are now only two competition lists. The Rights Off List for competitions that have failed the Bill of Rights, and The Rights On List for competitions that have passed the Bill of Rights. This change gets the campaign reporting back to it's initial simplicity, one good list, and one bad list. The Investigated List is no more and has been absorbed by the Rights Off List. Each list has one line for each competition, showing for each competition its title and its closing date for entries. Click on a competition title to see further details for that competition. By default the competitions are listed in descending order of closing date, that is, the oldest closing date competitions are at the end of the list. Facilities have been provided so that you can resequence and search the lists. Four features have been provided to help you use the lists effectively as follows; Searching & sequencing the Lists Filter; Use this to find a particular competition when you know its title, or part of its title. For example you could enter 'landscape photographer of the year', press enter and all contests with that phrase in the title will be listed. Order; This is a drop down menu that lets you choose a sequence for the list. By default this is set at 'Ordering', that is the contests are listed in descending order of closing date for entries. The drop down menu provides four other sequences that you are free to use. Display; This lets you control how many competitions are listed per page. By default this is set at 50, but the drop down menu also offers you 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25. Search; The 'Search Pro-Imaging' box can be used to search our competition lists for organisations participating in these contests as promoters, sponsors, subsidiaries, affiliates, judges, and media partners. It can also be used to search for photographers and organisations who participate as judges in our listed competitions. For example if you wanted to find all the contests that an organisation is participating in, type the organisations name in the search box and press enter. This takes you to the search screen which offers further options, best results will often be given by selecting the Exact phrase option but feel free to experiment. The search results will indicate whether the contests found are on the the Rights Off or Rights On Lists. Likewise if you know a photographer who serves as a judge you can use the search facilty to discover which contests they participate in. When looking at the detail of a particular competition it will detail the organisations and photographers involved, and you could use the search facility to discover what other contests these photographers and organisations are involved in. The Future There may be further refinements to the presentation and searching options and these will be announced in future diary updates. URL Links As a result of this major reorganisation The Rights Off List and The Rights On List had to be moved to new locations. However we have been very careful to ensure that no links are broken! You may find if you click on a bookmark or favourite that you made in the past that you are taken to a page which tells you the list you are looking for has been moved, but it will have a link you can click on that will take you to where it is now! Then you can replace your original bookmark with the new one. We apologise for any inconvenience, but to allow our campaign to continue to grow and provide effective reporting of rights grabbing and good contests, these changes were absolutely essential. RSS Feeds This is not new but we thought we'd take the opportunity to mention again that if you want to keep up to date with the competition campaign, click on the orange RSS Feed icon in your browser address bar.
