Other events

National Portrait Gallery; Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

On 9th May we wrote to the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) and Taylor Wessing detailing the Bill of Rights conditions which their contest failed. We stated that if we did not hear from them by the 16th of May we would assume the contest rules could not be changed and our competition report would be prepared on that basis.

On 12th May we received a  reply from the Exhibitions Manager saying they would need more time to consider the issues raised in our email to them. We proposed the end of May as a date that should give them time to review their contest rules and this was accepted by NPG.

On 29th May we received a note from the Exhibitions Manager indicating no rules would be changed but that "we plan to incorporate some possible revisions into the rules for next year’s competition."

A full and comprehensive  report on this contest is now published on the Rights Off List, including our reply to the NPG's Ehibition Manager (Competitions).

Nikon Instruments Small World Contest

Following an agreement between Pro-Imaging and Nikon Instruments Inc. with regard to fair and respectful terms and conditions for photography contests, agreement was also reached to issue a press release announcing that the Small World contest was one of the first to to fully comply with the Bill of Rights.

This press release was issued on 2 June 2008 and Pro-Imaging expect that this this announcement may encourage other organisations to follow where Nikon Instruments have led. Last week Nikon Instruments issued their own press release to announce that the Small World Contest this year attracted a record number of entries.

Our aim is that as the range of contests on the Rights On List steadily grows there will be no need for photographers to enter those contests that do not respect rights.

RSS Feeds

We take the opportunity at this point each week to mention that if you want to keep up to date with the competition campaign, click on the orange RSS Feed icon in your browser address bar. You will recieve competition diary updates direct to your RSS feed. Regular visitors know this already, but new visitors arrive all the time!

Contacting Us

We welcome notices telling us about contests that are either good or bad. You can use our Competitions Campaign Contact Form to tell us what you've found. We are especially keen to hear about good contests that you think pass our Bill of Rights, at the moment they are more difficult to find but as the campaign continues for the long term, we expect that to get easier.

We try and reply to all the notices we receive, but this may not always be possible. We thank you here in advance for any help you offer.
