Competition Diary 23 June 2008All competition reports have now been updated to the new report format announced in the last diary, an unfortunate side effect of this effort has been to slow down normal competition reporting, but we are getting back to normal now! In addition we have addressed a problem with The Rights Off List that made it difficult to use. One of our contributers reported having problems using the lists, thanks for letting us know, we'd have thanked you personally but you didn't give your name or contact email address. When we looked into this we discovered that the search box that was supposed to appear for both The Rights On List and The Rights Off List did not appear on the latter. This would make life more difficult when trying to find a particular competition in the The Rights Off List, and the problem has now been fixed. While on this subject of getting the most out of the lists, if you have never had a look at the 'How To Use This List' document that appears at the top of each list, check it out to find out how to use the search, filtering and re-ordering features provided for you. Listed below are the titles of the competitions added to the competition campaign lists since the previous diary update along with news of any other events that have occured in the campaign since the last diary was published. 12 June 2008 19 June 2008

Other events On 11th June during a review it was noticed that Focal Press had moved the rules page for the Focal Monthly Photo Contest to a new address following our original report criticising their rules. We have adjusted the link in our report. On 12th June during a competition review we noticed that Guardian Unlimited had relaunched the Urban Mural competition subsequent to the publishing of our critical report on its rules. The rules have been changed from a copyright grab in the original competition to a perpetual usage claim in the relaunched competition. Unfortunately it still fails the Bill of Rights. During the same review it was noticed that The Assignment competition by Canon also had its rules adjusted subsequent to our original critical report, sufficiently in this case to make it on to The Rights On List. We regret that Canon did not advise us of the rule changes when they made them or we could have promoted the competition before it's closing date. We are continuing to have positive discussions with contest organisers, some of whom welcome the Bill of Rights principles and support it. Pro-Imaging welcome all these discussions, we sometimes get useful feedback and on every occasion these discusions improve our understanding of the competition world. One incident last week made us smile. We wrote to ING Direct last week telling them that their competition's rules had failed the Bill of Rights. We gave them a copy of our report on their competition and gave them the opportunity to change their rules. ING Direct subsequently phoned Pro-Imaging to ask if our Bill of Rights was legally binding. If only!!! We told them it was not, but it represented a set of fair guidelines for photography competitions. ING Direct chose to ignore these guidelines and so we have published our report here. RSS Feeds We take the opportunity at this point each week to mention that if you want to keep up to date with the competition campaign, click on the orange RSS Feed icon in your browser address bar. You will recieve competition diary updates direct to your RSS feed. Regular visitors know this already, but new visitors arrive all the time! Contacting Us We welcome notices telling us about contests that are either good or bad. You can use our Competitions Campaign Contact Form to tell us what you've found. We are especially keen to hear about good contests that you think pass our Bill of Rights, at the moment they are more difficult to find but as the campaign continues for the long term, we expect that to get easier. We try and reply to all the notices we receive, but this may not always be possible. We thank you here in advance for any help you offer. We never reveal the names of those who notify us of competitions. Other Diary Entries Other competition diary entries can be read here.
