PI Digest for the week to 10/8/08 |
|
A relatively quiet week over the past seven days, as summer begins and holidays loom, with only (!) 88 messages bouncing between members.
Of course, the Microsoft Iconic Britain competition continued to produce the most outrage and comment but as the result of the action PI took, Nikon announced they were withdrawing their support for the competition along with their nominated judge. This was quickly followed by the remaining three judges names being removed from the list of judges...leaving none!
A member who wanted to match the background colour of some corporate portraits to the Pantone spot colour of the client's logo asked for help with the best, easiest and most accurate way. The responses just go to demonstrate the huge range of expertise among members, as replies came in from both colour management and Photoshop experts.
Various problems with the new version of Lightroom were reported and mostly solved, advice on scratch disks was sought and (comprehensively) given, and advice on the best photojournalism courses in the UK was asked for.
It's not always crises and panic behind the requests for help on PI. Members often share information that they have come across and think others might be interested in. This week one member came across some software for tracking stolen laptops (and photographing the thieves, if you're using a macbook pro.) while another found a way of charging batteries on location - by using a kite.
