Weekly List Discussion 18th August 2008

Quite a week for techie discussions on list, with the question of which is the best for a photographer's workflow, Aperture or Lightroom? It seems both have thier followers, but judging by the discussion, Lightroom is ahead. Is there room for both products in the marketplace?

The next techie chat was all about power inverters. Can you run a Pwerbook on one, or simply charge it up? It seems that a good 300w model can provide enough grunt to run a Powerbook and several other devices too. Some very useful links and suggestions on which model to buy were forthcoming.

iPhone users got involved in a discussion on how to apply mail rules on your iPhone and also how to stop it downloading all your emails and recieve just the headers.

Techie subjects continued with a discussion about a clients wishes to work on massive 280Mb files (!) that originated as 28Mb Jpegs was actually a really good idea. A good discussion on up-rezzing of files continued.

More techie discussions also involved choosing the right SATA disk enclosure for a RAID and is there any benefit in having a static IP address.

Not much room for the usual business discussions this week, but they included a big thank you to Senator Olymia Snow in the USA for putting a hold on the Orphan Works Bill. Lets hope that others can step forward to act on this.
