A gold star for the most technical 'nerdy' question this week: the use of Applescript to automate the re-sizing of images by 5mm on one side only! Luckily there's a Mac scripting expert who is a PI member, who rapidly solved the problem. And in doing so, I at least, became aware of the huge possibilities for efficiency by using this built in facility. One member found himself, for unknown reasons (technical or otherwise) locked out of accessing the Adobe Photographers Directory. Members advice was not to worry - it's not worth it. Other subjects: Moire effect in certain DSLR's was discussed, and how best to avoid it. How to rename external drives on a Mac. And where best to get props to aid the sitting of groups of people in the studio. The best way of achieving High Dynamic Range files from a group of bracketed exposures was discussed. While it's possible to do this in Photoshop and Lightroom, other third party software was recommended. In the end though, nothing works perfectly, all the time. Everything needs tweaking at some point. The biggest discussion was on the value of print sales in wedding photography. Members who photograph weddings found their sales falling, while the demand for hi-res files on disk was rising. One member only offers the latter, and recommended it as a hassle free route to profits. Compiled by Simon Grosset |
