PI Digest to June 14th 2009

This week's postings covered camera and computer equipment, software, photo, administation and other issues challenging professional photography worldwide.

Canon 50mm and 85mm: A PI Member has decided that Canon's 24-105 zoom has just too much distortion and is going to use prime lenses for the shorter focal lengths. Lots of advice from users, which aperture etc. helped to a convincing decision.

CS4 Bug-Diffuse Glow:  A posting from a very experienced PI  Member turned out to be as simple as a foreground colour change!

Educating Young Photographers:  A long posting from a PI member in Asia regarding how some young local photographers may be being exploited by what may be Major Western Media Organisations.  What can they do when what may be a derisory fee to a Western Photographer could feed the local photographers family for a while.

Family Portrait Lighting:  Beauty Dishes, Softboxes, Umbrellas, PI Members shared their own techniques.

Raw Processing Controls:  What's the difference between Exposure and Brightness, a simple explanation moved on to using the Auto features of Lightroom.

64-bit Computing:  A PI Member is upgrading his computers, with the possible increase in video work should he move up to a 64 bit system?  Lots of knowledgeable advice, buy for now as upgrading will be cheaper in the future, why 64 bit, should you buy now with Windows 7 on the horizon?
