Weekly List discussion to 17th January 2010 |
|
An amazingly busy week on the pro-imaging list, with over 230 messages winging their way back and forth between members.
Most of them were of a technical nature - but the diversity was astonishing!
We discussed Apple networking problems, camera colour calibration, ink limited CMYK targets and using frames in web sites.
A member wanted advice on film scanners for B&W negatives, another had a colormunki that stopped his Mac from going into sleep mode.
There was a long discussion about whether Capture One, Lightroom, Aperture or RAW developer gave the best conversion - which was unresolved.
The best monitors were discussed (again!) the situation is constantly changing of course, and solutions for a failure of Photoshop to stitch images was looked for. One member had a problem with some Nikon D3X files, while another had a problem with green screens.
A recommendation for a server based DAM solution was asked for, while another member wanted advice on how to photograph steam against a white background (the answer - get the client to change his mind!)
On the non-technical front, a member who is a wedding photographer wanted advice on advertising locally, while the news that the Independent had been 'stealing' images from a Flickr user caused the whole discussion on the social networking site to be reignited.
Finally, the BBC's documentary on Duffy (The Man who Shot the Sixties) brought forth many reminiscences of the 'good old days'! One of our members was his assistant and studio manager and was able to fill in the gaps. Compiled by Simon Grosset - Q Photography
