UK Environmental Agency Statement20 January 2010 13:41 We have just received the following statement from the Environmental Agency in connection with the unpaid photography opportunity originally reported by the British Journal of Photography - Alex Ross, Head of Media and Events at the Environment Agency said: "This is a genuine attempt to give opportunities to talented young photographers, while still working with the experienced professionals who do outstanding work on our behalf. "As the Head of Media and Events, I take responsibility for what goes out from this team. And the initial advert could have been better worded to recognise that we will always pay photographers for their work - by covering expenses, royalties and an agreed rate for the job. This initiative is intended to widen the pool of photographers with whom we work and I hope we'll end up with a good spread of experienced pros and new graduates across the country. "The Environment Agency is a responsible employer, with strict criteria on working with suppliers. We take our responsibilities seriously when it comes to paying people the right rate, on time and getting good value for the taxpayer. And we're always looking for opportunities to work with talented people who have an interest in what we do." Pro-Imaging have responded to this statement and the response can be read here.
