| PI weekly review to 07/02/10 |

Here's a taste of what was discussed among the 170 messages on PI this week. On the technical front, the optimum file size for TV presentations was discussed, as was a problem with a dual screen set up on a Mac. A member trying to track down a supplier of flash tubes for his (ancient!) studio lights was also helped. One member advertised his outdoor portrait print exhibition, and although most of PI's international membership couldn't make it to London for the opening, many congratulated him after seeing the photos on the accompanying web site. Another member posted some 'previously unseen' photos from the Pearl Harbour attack that he'd been sent - only to be told that the story behind them was 'an urban myth' and that they were freely available for download from the US Naval Historical Center! There was much anger at the new online magazine "Pilfered" which actually encourages it's readers to supply photographs stolen from other web sites (while trying to wriggle out of the illegality of it.) Another photographer needed to show to a small claims court in Switzerland how much work and time he'd spent on an in image with Photoshop. Amazingly, we were told that you can output a text file that will tell you just that! Lastly, we all know what it's like to face problems while working, and most of us know how to overcome them, or work round them. However, one member was presented with the ultimate. He was due to photograph inside a prison, and after his client had completed negotiations with the Governor, was told: "He's agreed you can come inside, but you can't bring a camera with you."
