A lot of computer related topics on the Pro-Imaging list this week, many being Mac related.
Moving System to MacBook Pro: With the increase in spec of the current range of laptops is it possible to edit and maintain an archive with just a laptop, a large monitor and some connected drives? Judging by the experiences of some PI Members yes it’s quite possible. They shared their recommendations on external drives and transfer protocols.
Spam emails: Inundated with spam filling up his iPhone a PI member asked for help and advice. Lots of useful advice came from other PI members on techniques to try and avoid much of it, along with the warning that there’s so much spam around emails! As a reliable form of communication it seems to be getting close to broken.
Passing on Jobs: Whilst PI Members when unable to cover a job, (sometimes too far to travel or possibly illness) often use the PI list to pass them on Unusually, this week two jobs were passed on, one very last minute, the other being due to man flu.
VPN as a security solution: Virtual Private Networks are often mentioned as a security precaution whilst using free Wi-Fi. We discussed positives and negatives and some inexpensive providers.
Yosemite?: Becoming an early adopter?, PI members and our resident Mac experts suggest you wait a little.
Child Proof iPad: We don’t only discuss Professional Imaging on the PI list, we also exchange information on protecting a tablet from some very active under 5’s!
